On Wednesday, March 19, the brief election for new student government executives concluded. That evening at 6pm, Campus Union announced via an Instagram livestream those chosen to hold executive positions for the upcoming year; Matt Meyers ‘27, Kerrington Pinckney ‘27, Eloise Hupfer ‘26, and Geneva Kowbeidu ‘26.
The appointed executives are far from unfamiliar with Campus Union, all previously serving as delegates for their respective classes alongside other commitments and organizations at Wofford.
Hupfer and Pinckney, elected Study Body Vice President and Student Body Secretary respectively, attribute the expansion of their perspectives of the Wofford community and student government to the various involvements and opportunities they have sought outside of Campus Union.
“I have gotten a really good perspective [from] a lot of different organizations on campus,” Hupfer said, “The idea that every organization on campus is important and makes an impact makes us want to … represent everybody on campus.”
Pinckney adds to the emphasis on creating a welcoming and holistic Wofford community, stating that one of the major and uniform goals of this executive council is to engage Wofford students of all types and organizations.
“We’re already starting on things to implement for next year to make sure everyone is included and (there are) more events that aren’t necessarily centered around clubs or Greek Life,” Pinckney said.
Pinckney, a sophomore, reflects on the personal growth and accomplishments she has experienced by serving as class delegate for two years. She also admires the relationships she has built with the outside community during this time, an importance which appears to be reflected across the new executive body’s initiatives for inclusion.
These four are seemingly united in their largest goal, to unite the student body with an array of welcoming events that are not club or Greek Life-centered.
A recent step in this direction is a new Campus Union event called CU at 8:54, which has been largely spearheaded by Meyers, the incoming Student Body Secretary. Meyers organized this event alongside former Student Body President Marga Van Der Linde ‘25 in response to student experience surveys vying for alternative and inclusive weekend activities.
Meyers further embodies the value of inclusivity championed by all four executives in the realm of communication, aiming to serve as the link between the student body and Campus Union and increase overall awareness of the body’s day-to-day actions.
“I think one of our main goals, as an administration [and] as an exec board, is to bring back more transparency to student government and truly make the students know that we are someone that will represent them,” Hupfer said.
While Meyers, Pinckney and Hupfer ran unopposed, the office of Student Body President was contested between two candidates, Kowbeidu and her former fellow delegate Jack Grabarczyk ‘26. Both candidates fiercely approached their campaigns with flyers, buttons and endorsements, with Grabarczyk even mentioning the long-awaited yet amicable rivalry between himself and Kowbeidu at this year’s debate.
Kowbeidu structured her campaign upon ideals that seem well-aligned with the goals of her fellow executives. This “Dream Team,” as it was dubbed by Pinckney, is striving to foster relationships between students, faculty and staff alike.
“I just want to be thankful for everyone on campus,” Kowbeidu said. “We already have such a great institution and I really want to be a changemaker who leads this campus into a great thing because I am so grateful to be a Wofford student.”
Kowbeidu says her motivation to serve as Student Body President comes from her care and dedication to serve all students, as well as some of her first moments on Wofford’s campus during an admissions tour.
“I’m just feeling so lucky to have this position,” she said, “I’m really excited for this upcoming team and I think it’s going to be a great assembly.”
