Terriers enter the tournament following one of their best regular seasons since the team’s establishment.
The volleyball team closes out their regular season against Western Carolina on Mar. 25 after splitting a series against Furman last week. The team currently has a record of 10-5 with a win percentage of 0.66, one of the program’s best since its establishment.
This success secures the Terriers a spot in the Southern Conference Tournament, but whether or not they enter as a 3 or 4 seed is dependent upon the result of their final regular season matchup against the Catamounts.
The Terriers will travel to Birmingham Apr. 1 for the first round of the tournament. If victorious, Wofford would battle for the Southern Conference title, which the Terriers have yet to win.
Emory Wyatt ’23 spoke on the current state of the team ahead of the tournament.
“Team morale has been better than ever,” the sophomore right-side hitter said. “Everybody is so excited because we’ve had a record-breaking season and can’t wait for a shot at a ring.”
Wyatt also said what a win against Western Carolina to close out the season would mean to the team.
“The final win would be the icing on the cake for these regular season games. It would give us a boost of confidence leading up to our training for the conference tournament.”
Kennedy Smith ’23 also commented on the team’s momentum heading into the tournament.
“The team has had a great start to the season this year,” the sophomore outside hitter said. “We are going to keep working hard in order to hold onto our third-place spot in the SOCON for regular season, which will be one of Wofford Volleyball’s best SOCON regular season rankings ever. We need to capitalize on our strengths as a team, for example our passionate energy on the court and put forth our best foot regardless of adversity in order to finish this season with a SOCON championship.”
If the Terriers prevail in the SOCON tournament, they will compete in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. It would also be the first women’s program to win the SOCON in Wofford’s history.
