REMODEL AND CHANGES TO MENU IN THE WORKS AT MICHAEL BROWN VILLAGE CENTER —
By the end of this academic year, the Galleria that students have grown used to over the last three years will be a thing of the past.
Rumors about one of the changes have already spread across campus.
“We have applied for and obtained a beer license,” says Jason Burr, associate vice president of facilities and capital projects. “We will have keg beer and bottled beer. It will be craft beer, and we are working with RJ Rockers to have some local beer.”
Beer offerings in the Galleria will not be a part of the Terrier-Bucks program. Burr says that this change is part of an attempt to make the Galleria more of a destination on campus.
“We want to improve the quality of food and to eliminate the process of ordering and having to wait for an extended period,” Burr says, “ but we also want to make the Galleria more of a destination, an inviting place where people want to stay for a while.”
Many students are excited about the change.
“I think having a new eating atmosphere on campus will be cool,” says senior Hank Davis.
Davis says he is excited about the possibility of serving beer.
“It’s going to be awesome. Having a place to get beer on campus will be sweet.”
Danielle Cox, the manager of the Galleria, says the changes are welcomed.
“We are excited. It is a struggle for us to get through lunch,” says Cox. “With the changes, we should be much more efficient.”
The college is updating the entire kitchen are as well.
“They are changing everything from electric to gas,” Cox says, “and every- thing will be set up more efficiently.”
The renovation will also improve the aesthetics of the building.
“We are hiring a local designer who designed Cribb’s and Willy Taco,” Burr says. “We’ve hired her to evaluate the aesthetics of the Galleria.”
Burr also hopes to improve the acoustics in the room to eliminate the current issues with echoing. There will also be changes to the back patio area.
“We want to make the outside patio a more inviting place,” says Burr. “It’s a great space, but we are going to make some changes to it, maybe bring in some shade.”
Much of the project isn’t yet set in stone. Burr says that the renovations will take place sometime between Thanksgiving break and the beginning of second semester.
“[The Galleria] will be closed for a period of time, most likely over Christ- mas break,” Burr says.
There is a possibility that the Galleria will be closed during a time when students are on campus, but Burr says all heavy construction will go on while students are away.
Burr says the Galleria will continue its popular late-night service.
“We plan to continue late-night options, but there may be some changes to the menu. Some of the concepts we are looking at are pretty unique.”
