Greek Week is one of the most anticipated events on campus; a way for chapters to show their community participation as well as their fundraising efforts. Recently, Greek life officers discovered a way to support Wofford athletics while also motivating members of Greek life to gain points for their chapter for the coveted Greek Week trophy.
A deal was recently agreed upon, where attendance at Wofford home basketball games will be rewarded with points towards a member’s attributed chapter during Greek Week. The opportunity applies for both men and women’s home basketball games for the remainder of the season. Attendance will be recorded at the end of games behind the student section.
This year’s annual Greek Week will take place from April 7-11. Each sorority and fraternity will compete against one another in games and various team challenges in order to win points for the chapter, ultimately contributing to a shared philanthropy.
“All of the Greek organizations are very excited about earning points for their chapter. It is great to get Greek life more involved in the entirety of the Wofford community, including athletics,” Olivia Bishop ‘26, president of Kappa Delta, said.
This agreement serves the interests of both Greek life members and basketball players. It not only achieves points for all on campus fraternities and sororities, but shows support for the college’s student athletes.
“I’ve been to a couple of basketball games recently and I’ve noticed there’s not a ton of attendance so I think this came from a desire to have increased student involvement with sports on campus. Because so many students are involved in Greek life, this will be a great way to incentivize them to go to games,” Kylee Maidhof ‘26, president of Kappa Alpha Theta, said.
The system of weighing points has not yet been decided, but they will count towards the chapter as a whole rather than individual achievement.
“Each chapter has individual established point systems to motivate their sisters [or brothers] to get involved in other areas of Panhellenic and other organizations on campus. This is the first time Panhellenic as a whole has added a system to get Greek members involved with other parts of campus,” Maidhof said.
Though the basketball season will have concluded by Greek Week, points are still counted for any home basketball game of the semester. Both men’s and women’s basketball will conclude with the Southern Conference from March 6-10 in Asheville, NC. Attendance points can accrue rapidly, making a Greek Week victory a more tangible award.
Each Panhellenic and IFC organizations on campus are supportive of this collaboration and both council presidents are hopeful of the future for both Greek life and Wofford athletics. This is a unique way to unite two of Wofford’s most popular communities and to engage in a competitive collegiate atmosphere.
All students, whether or not involved in Greek life and athletics, are encouraged to go support the Terriers on the court, recognizing their hard work and athletic achievement. Visit woffordterriers.com for more information on home game dates for the Spring 2025 season.
