The Gender and Society Committee would like to announce its plans of bringing awareness to issues surrounding gender and equality for Spring 2016. We are excited to sponsor informational events for the campus.
The semester will begin with a Pledge Campaign; we will invite prominent figures on campus and others who are interested to pledge their commitment to ending issues such as sexual assault and domestic abuse. In March, which marks Women’s History month, we will be hosting a SCATE night where performers will present pieces of creative expression on subjects pertaining to gender and sexuality. Later in the semester, we are planning an on-campus 5K, highlighting the freedom that comes with an action such as running and bringing awareness to the fact that women are not able to participate in 5Ks worldwide. Finally, throughout the semester, we will also be making a consistent effort to bring more attention to women’s athletics, as their events are usually under-advertised and under-attended.
There will be further editorials from the Gender and Society Committee throughout the semester featuring topics surrounding gender, sexuality and identity. We invite all who are interested to participate in the particular events that intrigue them and look forward to the work we have in store for next semester. Thank you.
