During my time in Ireland this past Interim, I learned a lot about the culture and history of the island nation, including the literary tradition of limericks. Limericks are five-line poems with an aabba rhyme scheme. Often cheeky and humorous, limericks cover a wider array of topics from first loves to barn animals. Below are some personal attempts at creating limericks.
Back to School:
Laying in bed, dreading the semester’s start
Thoughts of waking in the morning break my heart.
After hours online looking for cheap textbooks,
It seems the market is full of crooks.
I pray that the oncoming workload doesn’t tear me apart.
An Ode to Spartanburg:
Hello again to my dear old Sparkle City
Lately you’ve become even more pretty
Once dreary and dab,
Now you’re looking fab.
But people continue to mock you, what a pity.
