Between Oct. 3-5 Wofford will be welcoming parents, siblings and alumni to a weekend celebrating the Wofford experience. Family Weekend registration is open, and the schedule is posted.

The weekend kicks off on Friday with the fall Parents Advisory Council meeting, followed by a Study Abroad Reception for families of Spring 2015 participants from 3:30 – 5 p.m. During the reception parents can ask questions about what resources the students have at their disposal. This will take place in the Gray-Jones Room in Burwell. Also during this time, parents are invited to make appointments to meet with Wofford professors. They can be contacted through the student or via the contact information provided online. Friday evening will be the Class of 2015 Reception — the first of many events in honor of the senior class. Harold Chandler, class of ’71 and chairman of the Wofford board of trustees, invites seniors and family members to the reception in the Galleria and Village Courtyard, where there will be wine and cheese.

The following morning The Space is offering an Open House to students and families from 10 – 11:30 a.m. Following the Open House, lunch will be available for $15 (adults) and $10 (students) under the tents behind Old Main. Before the game from 11:30 – 12 p.m. President Nayef Samhat will host an informal question and answer session in McMillan Theater. Finally, the Terriers kick-off against The Citadel at 1:30 p.m. in Gibbs Stadium. Wrapping up Family Weekend, the woman’s soccer team will play The Citadel at Snyder field on Sunday at 2 p.m.

According to Student Body Vice President Donovan Hicks, Family Weekend is a great time for first-year students in particular to be reunited with their families.

“Freshmen have really soaked up all the opportunities that Wofford has to offer. They’re getting involved and putting themselves in social scenes, which is great. I think they are happy Wofford Terriers,” says Hicks.

While he is happy to see the class take Wofford on, he knows that the weekend will be a special time for the students based on his own experience of Family Weekend.

“I love seeing my parents and hanging out with them even though they live less than five minutes away. It’s always great to stroll around Wofford with them,” says Hicks.

While some parents and families come from Spartanburg, others travel hundreds of miles for the weekend. Senior Annie Currin’s parents will travel from Hermosa Beach, Calif.

“Being from California, I don’t see my parents that many times a year, so I always really look forward to Family Weekend. It’s fun to spend time with them on campus with your friends and their parents too,” Currin says.

On Friday tickets to the Terrier football game will be available for pick-up in the Papadopoulos Building from 8:30 a.m. –  2 p.m.
