On Aug. 25, with first year pre-season athletes and other groups and organizations already on campus, the total 442 freshman and 21 transfers – 431 living on campus and 11 commuters – were welcomed on campus. This year, the class is almost evenly split between 222 males and 220 females. 2009 out of 2540 applicants were accepted to Wofford College for the 2015-2016 academic school year, eventually forming the diverse class of 2019.
The geographic distribution of the class of 2019 includes 224 students as South Carolina residents and 218 students from out-of-state, with 25 states and five countries represented. As far as the types of schools attended, 158 students attended private schools, 275 attended public schools, three were homeschooled and six attended foreign schools. African-Americans, Asians, Hispanics, one American Indian, Internationals and other students make up 17 percent of the class of 2019.
This class has two merit scholars, 65 palmetto fellows, eight valedictorians, seven salutatorians, 27 student body officers, 20 senior class officers, 39 boys’ state delegates, 28 girls’ state delegates, 65 signed athletes, 131 National Honor’s Society members, 80 Beta Club members, 23 editors, 172 team captains and 20 Eagle Scouts.
All of these statistics make up a talented, ambitious and overall diverse class. Again, to the class of 2019, welcome to Wofford!
