“Who doesn’t love a free event on a Saturday afternoon?” says Wofford senior Abigail Hoffman, speaking of the upcoming Hub City Block Party. “It’s a great opportunity to experience downtown Spartanburg in a relaxed environment.”
Daniel Ross and Adam Oddo of LIT Coffee had an idea to throw a big party in downtown Spartanburg to showcase how spectacular the city is and can be, says Hoffman. The pair asked her to help put on the event, which is St. Patrick’s Day themed and free to the public.
“I felt honored they invited me; it’s an awesome hands-on opportunity. I’m working with the rest of our overall coordinating team to head the social media pages on Facebook and Instagram,” she says. “I’m also working with Annamaria Hidalgo to source and organize our volunteers for the block party.”
The event will include a variety of musical and local entertainment, food vendors, an artisan market and artist demonstrations, a kids area, a cornhole tournament and a seven-tap beer truck featuring RJ Rockers’ brews, says Hoffman.
“We have a ton of awesome, local sponsors, including Willy Taco, RJ Rockers, Hub City Taphouse, LIT Coffee, Coca-Cola, the Marriott, Budweiser, The Hop Spot, Belle Magazine, Wet Ink Printing, 20/20 Auto Glass and Kudzuu,” says Hoffman.
According to Hoffman, the event should be particularly enjoyable for Wofford students.
“There will be music and food to fit everyone’s taste, plus beer for those of age. But we also need volunteers, and anyone interested can sign up to volunteer by emailing me by Sunday the thirteenth. Volunteers get a free t-shirt and two free food and beer tickets!”
Volunteers are needed to help with food ticket sales, aid in the kids’ area (face painting and carnival game monitoring), general runners, set up and tear down, says Hoffman. To register, email [email protected].
