With the arrival of colder temperatures comes the implementation of fall activities by Wofford as well as Spartanburg and surrounding areas. fun fall activities. Examples include fall festivals, mazes, hayrides, apple picking and pumpkin patches. Wofford kicked off festivities by having a carnival organized by the Wofford Activities Council on Thursday, Nov. 20 that consisted of food trucks, a ferris wheel and other games.
According to many Wofford students, Sky Top Orchard is a fan favorite. Sky Top is an orchard open from 9am-6pm everyday until November 4. After November 4, the hours will change from 9am-5pm. At Sky Top visitors can experience a view of mountains, walk through a barn and play with animals like chickens, turkeys and sheep. Visitors can pick apples, socialize at picnic tables and visit with one another. The orchard is known for its pumpkins and apples, as well as their apple cider donuts. Sky Top Orchard has become so popular among Wofford students that sororities such as Kappa Alpha Theta take trips there.
Sky Top Orchard is located at 3403 Greenville Highway in Flat Rock, NC. Hughey Farms is another fall location frequented by Wofford students. Hughey is located at 9295 Asheville Highway, Boiling Springs, SC, offering locally grown produce, offering pumpkins and summer squash in the fall.
Spartanburg has many beautiful hiking and walking trails to experience in the fall as leaves turn color and temperatures drop. Edwin M. Griffin Nature Preserve is one example. The preserve expands over 115 acres and has over 5 miles of trails and wetlands. It is located at Beechwood Dr, Spartanburg, SC. Another preserve often visited by Wofford students is Glendale Shoals Preserve. The site contains hiking trails, a waterfall and flat rock faces to climb on. It is located at Emma Cudd Rd, Spartanburg, SC.
