Make-in-the-microwave oven kale chips

Make-in-the-microwave+oven+kale+chips

By: Caroline Maas, staff writer

For those of you who have a permanent vice against all things green, this recipe will make you reconsider. Not only is kale low in calories but it is also high in fiber, Vitamins A, K and C and contains zero grams fat. One cup of kale contains a mere 36 calories. It also serves as a great detox food…and, of course, a great snack.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 bunch flat-leaf kale
  • about 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil
  • salt and garlic to taste

I won’t insult your intelligence by attempting to walk you through this self-explanatory recipe, but I will offer some quick tips:

Trim the ribs away from your kale and then cut the leaves into about two-inch pieces (it’ll cook better this way).

Toss your kale in the olive oil and then lay out the leaves so they do not overlap.

Season as you see fit and then cook in a microwave oven for about 2-2 ½ minutes (or until crispy).

Congrats, you can now call yourself a “foodie” on social media and conduct yourself as if you embody all things hipster simply by way of consuming the vexed and infamous vegetable, kale.

[Disclaimer: microwave ovens are prohibited in dorm rooms, so find a friend living in the Village to try out this yummy, easy recipe!]
