In their final show of the semester, 11 Wofford riders competed in a show hosted by the College of Charleston on Nov. 14.
Substitute coach Gisele O’Grady of Clear View Farm took the place of coach Jeanne Smith, who was unable to attend. Three of the 11 riders attended their first Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) horse show with the team, including Anastasia Brown ’17, Kyrie Hugdahl ’19 and Lindsey Goan ’19.
While most flat classes contain multiple sections in order to keep classes small, over fences classes contained up to 16 riders vying for only six ribbons. As a result, none of the six Wofford riders who competed over fences earned a ribbon in their respective divisions, despite what rider Abby Umberger calls a successful set of rides:
“Over fences classes were super competitive due to the increased number of riders in each division. Normally, classes are broken up when they surpass a certain number of riders. This show, however, they were all put in one class, which increased the level of competitiveness.”
Results are as follows:
Bennett Camp-Crowder ’17: 4th place in the open flat division
Brown: 3rd place in the open flat division
Allison Andrews ’19: 6th place in the intermediate flat division
Grace Edwards ’18: 6th place in the intermediate flat division
Sarah Madden ’17: 2nd place in the advanced walk-trot-canter division
Hugdahl: 4th place in the beginner walk-trot-canter division
The next competition will be held in late January, but the team will continue practices through the rest of the semester and during Interim.
