Truth about the new, cheap Krispy Kreme donuts around campus
Krispy Kreme donuts have long been a staple of Wofford’s culture – it feels that almost every organization around campus at one point or another props themselves up on the Seal of Old Main with a few dozen delectable donuts for you to munch on while they inform students of their club. In a turn of events so uniquely characteristic to Wofford, there are now donuts available for only 99 cents in The Market and other retail locations around campus! Though we’ve had this since the beginning of the year, people began to wonder the specifics of how these wonderful little pieces of goodness came to sit on Wofford’s shelves. Did AVI strike a deal to get cheap donuts with Krispy Kreme? Are they day-old donuts or factory rejects? Are the donuts delivered or picked up?
Wofford did, in fact, strike a deal with Krispy Kreme, purchasing a package deal offered by Krispy Kreme for corporations. Five or six dozen donuts are delivered five to six days a week to campus, bringing that morning sugar rush we all need to help get us through our mornings for just 99 cents in The Market.
The man behind the idea is Walter Miller Jr., the AVI director here on campus. He began bringing the donuts in due to Wofford’s love of Krispy Kreme. He said, “I thought that students would enjoy a fresh donut with brand recognition. I also see an opportunity to incorporate them into catering, even concessions.” Miller especially stated that the donuts on campus were fresh, quality Krispy Kreme donuts. He emphasized that they were the same quality as if you’d grabbed them through the drive-thru right across the street, explaining “I heard a rumor that students think that we are purchasing day-old donuts to sell. I guarantee this is not the case. I would not buy day-olds myself, therefore I would not sell them.”
With the semester really beginning to drag on, this new change is a welcome surprise everyone can get excited about. A hot donut while walking to an 8 a.m. class is such a fantastic way to start the day—who doesn’t love a circular piece of pure joy in the morning?
Toss a ‘thank you’ Mr. Miller’s way, and if you have any suggestions involving catering, he would be glad to hear from you.
