The Wofford Terriers prepare for the Western Carolina Catamounts with weeklong homecoming events

Homecoming week events will begin on Monday, Oct. 30 and continue until the football game against Western Carolina University on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The week of traditions will kick off with a trivia night.

“On Monday, we have a trivia night which is super fun and there’s going to be a couple of different categories,” said Emma Catherine McLean ‘24, co-chair of Terrier Traditions on the Wofford Activities Council. “One (category) will probably be Wofford related, but it’s just a fun night with prizes.”

Tuesday will feature the Mr. Wofford event in the Stewart H. Johnson Greek Village.

Organizations across campus select a male student to represent them in the Mr. Wofford pageant competition.

This year, given the competition is held on Halloween, there will be a costume contest element. McLean looks forward to carrying forward the history of the event.

“We’re going to have a costume contest and more spooky Halloween themes,” said Lauren Strange ‘24, co-chair for Terrier Traditions on WAC. “It’s kind of fun that it’s within that week because we can cater stuff towards that. It’s also building off of those foundational fun aspects of fall that we just get to recreate.”

“All of campus tends to come out for (Mr. Wofford) which is great,” McLean said. “We’ll typically have professors and staff be the judges, which is really fun, and we’re still finalizing our judges, so we’ll announce that soon.”

On Wednesday night, there will be an open-mic night, hosted by Wofford Live.

A favorite among the Terriers, the Homecoming carnival, will take place on Thursday evening.

Strange claims that the carnival is her favorite event of the week.

“Most years, there’s a ferris wheel and that is my favorite part because Wofford is so tiny that when you’re at the top of it you can see the Greek row and all of campus, and it’s so cute,” Strange said. “I like that it’s something for the whole campus to go to.”

The week will end with “Food Truck Friday”’ before the football game on Saturday where the Western Carolina Catamounts will travel to Spartanburg to play against the Terriers. In the midst of a tough season, placekicker Bridger Jones ‘26 holds a positive outlook for the game.

“Western Carolina is a great football team,” Jones said. “Their offense is quick, and they score a lot of points. We think there’s certain areas of defense we can exploit and try to put some points on the board and keep up with them. It’ll be a fun game but it’s a big competition.”

The Terriers lost against Western Carolina last year, and Jones looks forward to another chance at victory.

“Every opportunity and game (is) a gift from the Lord,” he said. “The ability to go out and do the thing we love is never to be taken for granted. There’s a competitive spirit in every one of those guys out there and they want to go out and win.”

Students and faculty can purchase tickets at woffordterriers.com/tickets. All students are encouraged to come out and participate in the weeklong events.
