Watch out Cookout, there’s a new and local place in town that may have your milkshakes beat. If you find yourself roaming in downtown Spartanburg looking for something to satisfy that sweet tooth of yours after tasting some of the local options that your lovely WoffordSpooners have provided for you, stroll on over to Dottie’s Toffee – you won’t regret it!
Located in the heart of downtown right across from Wild Ace’s, Dottie’s Toffee has a variety of toffee, cookies, ice cream and other sweet treat options for you to enjoy. Nick Belmont, the owner, specifically uses the same family toffee recipe as his grandmother, Dot Smith – hence the name.
Opening up in spring of this year, Dottie’s Toffee is hoping to make a staple in the community one sweet treat at a time. Additionally, Dottie’s also sells their goods not only in the Spartanburg community, but also in stores and airports across the east coast and in places in the Midwest, as well.
Sporting a modern, minimalist design in its interior, Dottie’s has seating at a window bar, outside on tables and in a larger separate room for gatherings. Alternatively, since the service is speedy, Dottie’s is also the perfect drop-in for the student looking for a quick snack (which is what we did).
“The coffee ice cream is perfect for the college student with a sweet tooth and a coffee addiction,” says senior Zack Morrow. “I highly recommend it.”
Senior Jonathan Franklin agrees with Morrow.
“Between the ice cream, the toffee and the cookies, you can never go wrong with the choice that you make. With their ice cream flavors and the options to get it in a cup, cone or milkshake just makes things 10 times better,” says Franklin. “But then again, you can never go wrong with birthday cake ice cream”
Morrow and Franklin agreed that Dottie’s is very good at what it does. Even though the products are very niche, they agree that Dottie’s merits five out of five stars on the WoffordSpoon meter.
“Definitely a good choice and worth a shot – especially if you love ice cream or all things sugary,” says Franklin.
