FUN-FILLED WEEKEND FOR RETURNING AND CURRENT STUDENTS—
This year’s homecoming was full of activities. Homecoming kicked off with the Mr. Wofford pageant on Wednesday Oct. 22. Hosted by Donya Amer and 2013’s winner of Mr. Wofford, Donovan Hicks, the MCs introduced the contestants as they walked out to “This is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. The contestants were Hank Davis (#1), Isaiah Addison (#2), Ryan Carter (#3), Rickman Davis (#4), Rod McCants (#5), Mack Boyd (#6), Skyler Roberts (#7), Hunter McGahee (#8), Zach Barnes (#9), Jeremiah Tate (#10) and Chris Paschal (#11).
The group then danced to “Stayin’ Alive” by Bee Gees, choreographed by senior Maggie Stroud. The first competition was the Halloween costume. Davis dressed as a hotdot; Addison gave a performance of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song as the fresh prince; Carter was a squirrel; Davis dressed as batman; McCants chose to be Dean Bigger; Boyd dressed as a 70s character; Roberts was a witch; McGahee dressed as Pikachu; Barnes was a cowboy; Tate was 2 Chainz and Paschal was a penguin. The next competition was beachwear, and the final competition was formal wear and the question round. The winner was Rod McCants, 1st runner up was Ryan Carter and Mack Boyd received Mr. Congeniality.
Friday night, Oct. 24, was the Terrier Ball and a lot of alumni came out and raised money, to be used for athletic scholarships. Most alumni stayed for the homecoming game the next day with Wofford taking on the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Prior to the game, the student tailgate lot had a DJ for the first time in years instead of a band, with great involvement, fun and food. When it was time for game the game to begin, Wade Hampton high school marched into the stadium.
By halftime, the Terriers were ahead 23 – 3. The men’s basketball team was acknowledged for the 2014 SoCon championship. Afterwards, the 10 homecoming finalists walked onto the field with their escorts. Dana Nobles was crowned the homecoming queen with Elizabeth Ramsey as 1st runner up and Elizabeth Rhee as 2nd runner up, all three members of Kappa Alpha Theta. After halftime, the Terriers returned with even more energy and defeated VMI with a final score of 38 – 3. Feeling victorious, the football Terriers left the stadium to the fight song.
